Internet and Education (Osaka University of Education)
- This is a huge collection of education related information. Included are
bulletin boards, universities, research institutes, elementary to senior high
schools, references, activities, and overseas information.

JAIN Consortium K12 Information
- JAIN Consortium, formed jointly by industry and academic sectors, is to
draw out the ideal shape of the academic research networks in Japan in the 21
century, and to start technical developments and research
activities which are necessary to implement the ideas into real.
A research on network use in education has started as one of such activities.

TOKAI Schoolnet Society

The society was formed to discuss and carry out the tasks for accepting
academic institutes in the region to the Internet and for stimulating
effective use of the Internet in education. The information the society
provides and available on www are quite informative for regions other than
Tokai as well.

Educational Projects

APICNET
- APICNET(Asia Pacific Interactive Communication NETwork), an
international personal computer communication network, was formed to cultivate
international cooperations, international exchange, and international
understandings. After some two years of pilot operation, it has been in full
operation since April 1993.

Media Kids
- This network started in autumn of 1994, and its theme was
"Inter school exchange using computer communication led by children".
The network is among the first networks of the kind.

KoNet Plan
- This plan is sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and
Culture. The Ministry, with NTT's cooperations,
provides hardware to connect to the Internet,
communication fee, and operation support to about one thousand schools nation
wide. Elementary to senior high and special education schools are included.

KIDLINK
- The project started in 1990 with the aim to connect children of 10 to
15 year olds from all over the world. A total of 60,000 children from 87
countries have joined the project since its start.
Examples of the Introduction of the Internet to Schools

Tanabe town municipal schools network system
- All the municipal schools (9 elementaries and 3 junior highs) and the
education committee are connected to the Internet via the server installed at
the room for the information education promotion board.

Shibecha town Internet Project (SIP)
- SIP was organized to give information services to citizens of the town
and to discuss information oriented activities.
16 schools in the town are connected to the Internet via SIP.

Yokohama Educational Information Network
- This network connects Yokohama municipal senior high schools.
The network is client & server type with workstations and multimedia
personal computers. It is connected to the Internet through a firewall machine.

Hyogo Miki Anti-Disaster Total Information Network System
- The network is established to cope with disasters. A system called
School Education Information System is built on that network to make use of
such network features as information retrieval and electronic mail to
help teachers and children with their educational activities.
22 elementary and junior high schools in Miki are equipped with terminals.

NetDay 96
- NetDay is an activity by volunteers with a aim of connecting all schools
in the US to the Internet. Oct. 26, 1996 was the NetDay of that year.

Korean IIE (Internet In Education) Movement
- Korean Central Daily is the originator of the movement. Now an committee is
formed to lead the movement. The committee member includes staff from the
Ministries of Education and of Information Communication.
The purpose of the movement is to provide schools with Internet connected
multimedia environments. Cooperations of the business sector are expected.
