[Introduction]

Shinonoi Nishi Junior High is relatively young to have celebrated its 30th anniversary in 1995, and is among the large scaled junior highs in the city.
Located in the south west of Nagano city, its vast school area includes residential, rural, and mountain areas.
Since the school area is quite a mixture of green fields, mountainous areas and areas just about to be developed, it is only natural that the environment problems come to be our concern.
Through out our new school building project, which took several years and caused changes to the environment, we witnessed some processes, which could have ended up with environment destruction, have taken place. This experience urged us, teachers and students, to obtain the knowledges and means to get the beautiful environment back, and to set the environment problems as one of the main stream in the school education.
To put this into practice, we now work at "growing woods at the school site".
