The school started in 1924 as Prefectural Fubu Agricultural School. Since then, the school went though many changes.
In 1976, it changed its name to Prefectural Toyama Nishi High School, and reorganized to a comprehensive high school with a liberal (including practical English), a chemical industry (third year only), and a civil engineering courses.
Lately, the art annex and the LL room are expanded to better the facilities of the school. Club activities are popular, and the fencing team won the championship in the inter-high school sports in 1994.
