About Groups
The applications for 100-school Networking Project were either for group A or
B. The applicants for group A were expected to dispatch information from
themselves in the 100-school project. All others were invited to apply for
group B.
As the result of screening, some 30 schools were selected for group A and some
70 for B. Group A schools were equipped with 64 Kbps digital exclusive lines,
and group B schools 3.4 KHz analog exclusive lines.
(Except for the communication lines and devices in direct connection to them,
there has been no difference in equipment between Groups A and B.
No obligations or limitations have been set about information dispatch either.
Virtually there has been little difference between the two groups except for
the communication lines.)
There were some schools, most of them attached schools to universities, who
need not new lines. These schools were put into the group according to
their applications.
Communication Equipment at Group A Schools
Group A schools are connected to their NOCs with 64 Kbps digital exclusive
lines.
The communication equipment which is necessary for this line type is a CSU
(also called TA). CSUs are connected to routers using v.36 cables.
Communication Equipment at Group B Schools
Group B schools are connected to their NOCs with 3.4 KHz analog exclusive
lines.
The communication equipment which is necessary for this line type is a modem.
Modems of maximum possible speed (28.2 Kbps) are connected to routers using
RS232C cables.
Venders and Equipment Delivered
Two separate tenders for the installation of communication lines, and for
communication equipment were invited for each six blocks. The six blocks in
all cover the whole nation. Followings are the results.
